New TXe 'Signature Line' about to hit the streets..
  july 25th, 2011 - posted by Jeroen

TXE is our custom workhorse designed to robotize your Challenge CMT trimmer into a fully automatic on-demand targeted finishing station! The new TXE is based on our existing Challenge TX solution but features a more polished and modular scalable jobdata retrieval and conformation engine. With TX, the actual jobdata travels with (on) the book through your workflow while it's embedded into a printed barcode - TXE however uses a different approach while the barcode contains a reference (productID or ISBN) to the actual jobdata enclosed in a single XML file loaded into the apps virtual memory.

Due to the custom nature of TXE and the desire to be able to fit a wide variety of existing customer workflows we choose to develop every final TXE product upon customer request. To assure a solid foundation we embedded some basic functionalities into the package like our former separate installed StreamLoader module. This addon takes care of scheduled, batched, handling of (web)submitted jobdata and positions this data to be ready and valid for app usage. While every processed job within TXE is referenced by its own unique identifier this realtime data can be exported for remote statistic and accounting tasks to get a clear view on your production and localize any delays or occured mistakes.

Due to the TX foundation this product also ships as 'one-size-fits-all' which means you can hook it up to both the Challenge Machinery CMT-130 (single knife with rotation) or the faster CMT-330 (3 knives) connected inline with a perfectbinder or stand-alone (nearline) to fit multiple or PUR binders.

With the rise of our recently launched TXL follow-up TX, we took the chance to introduce a brandnew functionality into the package. In the past CMT-330 users were dedicated to opt for the fully equipped TXE solution to be able to run standard auto-sizing on their Challenge devices. From now on customers can choose between the standard TX or the extended TXE solution without bothering if it will suit their existing machine!

With easy sliders on the touchscreen you can choose between the CMT-130 (6 dimensions) and the CMT-330 (5 dimensions) another slider is used to select if you would like to work in millimetres or inch. After changing your settings - just press save and every time you launch the system again, it will be ready to go for your specific chosen setup!

CP Bourg shows TX and CME at their booth in Paris during Graphitec 2011

Graphitec is the main graphical event in France and held every 2 years in Porte de Versailles Exhibition Centre in Paris. CP Bourg showed from 7-10 june on their booth (4D-005) at Graphitec two KentieCS solutions for on-demand finishing. The TX auto-sizing system was shown in conjuction with a nearline placed Challenge CMT-130 trimmer producing one-off paperbacks coming from a CP Bourg BB-Adventure PUR single-clamp binder and a BB-3002 EVA (hotmelt) perfectbinder upgraded with the KentieCS CME cover-to-content matching system. CP Bourg opt to show the trimmer with the in 2009 introduced Pilefeeder feedingsystem to accept and run universal book stacks to arrive random from multiple perfectbinders.

To be able to run one-off paperbacks - covers were supplied dynamically during printing with barcodes to ensure auto-sizing while books are fed into the bookreception of the Challenge trimmer. During demonstrations customers were shown that the TX add-on transforms the booktrimmer from a shortrun / series aiming device into a unique on-demand finishing station which enables inventory-free production without anybody touching the device or performing any manual handling!

The presented CME system for the BB3002 range, upgraded the binder with optical integrity control between cover and bookblock to ensure a correct match before starting a cycle when producing single-copies.

Thanks for the more than positive responses on both TX and CME during the Graphitec show - we will be back in Paris in june 2013.
